Wildlife in a Macclesfield garden

The old silk town of Macclesfield in Cheshire sits between the wild moors of the Derbyshire Peak District to the east and the beautiful green Cheshire countryside to the south and west. Being surrounded by fields and moorland, many parts of Macclesfield are able to see some incredible wildlife.

This website documents some of the wildlife that visits a small garden in the area - including birds, mammals, insects and occasional amphibians. One camera overlooks a small patch of wild garden, one is watching a bird feeding station and two more are in birdboxes. There may soon be more cameras watching anything else that may be interesting.

From 2016 through to 2019 no nesting took place in the small bird boxes but after cutting back hedges and slightly changing the direction of Birdbox2, the Blue Tits began to get interested and again decided to nest in 2020. The female laid seven eggs and you can watch how she is getting on via the live cameras webpage.

You can also follow the full story of 2020 via the diary page, including photos and videos by clicking here.

Or check out what happend in 2015 here. As for the garden visitors, have a look at the recent sightings, and watch some interesting videos here.

New in 2019 was the installation of a Swift box at the front of the house. Despite playing Swift calls regularly for both nesting seasons, so far there has been no interest.
